Patch & repair

4 products · 4 ready to ship

The work that happens before the field coats. Splits, cracks, blisters, open seams, the hollow by the drain that never dries out, and the hazed skylight panels nobody wants to replace. Four Sherwin-Williams Uniflex products cover most of it, in pails and in cartridges.

Why this range

  • Details first, field coat after

Patching and slope work belong ahead of any primer, base coat or finish coat, so the system goes down over a roof that is already sound rather than sealing a problem under it.

  • Wet or dry, acrylic or asphalt

KST041220 is a white acrylic elastomeric patching cement that stays inside an acrylic system. KST058600 is a black asphalt roof cement listed for asphaltic roof substrates whether they are wet or dry.

  • Build slope where water stands

KST0SLPBD is a powder, 40 lb in a 5-gallon pail, mixed with water on site into a cementitious slurry for crickets around rooftop equipment and for building up low areas near drains, in valleys and along parapet walls.

  • Skylights in the same visit

KST019100 is a clear acrylic coating listed for fiberglass skylight panels, so the panels can be handled while the crew is already up there instead of on a second mobilization.

Where it's used

  • Metal roof seams and fastener rows

Panel laps and fastener heads on metal roofs, patched and then reinforced with fabric or seam tape before the base coat.

  • Penetration and wall flashings

Pipe, curb, vent and wall flashings, where the patch and the reinforcement do the work the field coat cannot.

  • Splits, cracks and blisters

Openings in built-up, modified bitumen, polyurethane foam and concrete roofs, cut back, patched and coated over.

  • Crickets and standing water

Low spots around rooftop units, in valleys and along parapets, built up so water moves toward the drains instead of sitting.

  • Fiberglass skylight panels

Translucent panels on industrial and agricultural roofs that have weathered, coated rather than cut out and replaced.

How to choose

  1. Acrylic patch or asphalt cement?

Use KST041220 where the roof is getting an acrylic elastomeric system, so the whole build-up is one chemistry. Use KST058600 where the substrate is asphaltic, or where the surface is wet and the work cannot wait for it to dry.

  2. Cartridge or pail?

KST058600 comes as a 10 oz cartridge, 24 per case, and in 1, 3 and 5 gallon containers. KST041220 comes in 2-gallon and 5-gallon pails. Cartridges suit scattered detail work; pails suit a day of it.

  3. Reinforce the repair

Both cements are listed for use with fabric or seam tape. A three-course detail with polyester fabric, or a run of butyl tape down a seam, is what keeps the patch from opening again under the coating.

  4. What slope builder is not

It builds a cricket or fills a hollow before an acrylic system goes on; no Uniflex silicone specification names it under Silicone44, so there the adhesion test and Uniflex decide. It does not fix a deck that ponds because of framing, drain placement or a blocked leader. Those need a roofing consultant and the quote will say so.

Questions

Do I patch before or after the base coat?

Before. Patching, slope building and detail reinforcement all come first, then the primer or base coat, then the finish coat. A patch applied on top of a base coat is outside the system rather than inside it.

Can I coat over the patch?

The acrylic patching cement is made to sit inside an acrylic system. The asphalt roof cement is asphaltic, and what may go over it, and after how long, is stated in the manufacturer product data sheet. Tell us the system at quote time and we check the sheets against each other.

Which substrates does the acrylic patching cement list?

Metal roof seams, penetration and wall flashings, and small holes, splits, cracks and blisters in built-up, modified bitumen, polyurethane foam and concrete. It comes in 2-gallon and 5-gallon pails, in white.

What does the skylight coating do?

It is a clear acrylic coating listed for fiberglass skylight panels, in a 5-gallon pail. What it is expected to do to a weathered panel, and how it is applied, is set out in the manufacturer product data sheet. We can send that sheet with the quote.

How do I order, and when does it ship?

Send the part numbers, quantities, site ZIP and your dates through the quote form. Every price is quoted per project. Stocked material ships in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks.

About this collection

A restoration system does not repair a roof. It covers a roof that has already been repaired. This collection is the part of the job that happens with a trowel and a knife, before anyone opens a pail of base coat, and getting it wrong is the usual reason a coated roof leaks in its second winter. Everything here is Sherwin-Williams Uniflex, held in stock and quoted against the work in front of you.

Two products do most of the patching. KST041220 is the white acrylic elastomeric patching cement, in 2-gallon and 5-gallon pails, listed for metal roof seams, penetration and wall flashings, and small holes, splits, cracks and blisters in built-up, modified bitumen, polyurethane foam and concrete. KST058600 is the black asphalt roof cement, listed for asphaltic roof substrates wet or dry, and it comes as a 10 oz cartridge, 24 per case, and in 1, 3 and 5 gallon containers.

The other two solve problems a patch cannot. KST0SLPBD is the gray slope-building compound, sold as 40 lb of powder in a 5-gallon pail and mixed with water on site into a cementitious slurry, for crickets around HVAC and rooftop equipment and for low-lying areas near drains, in valleys and along parapet walls. KST019100 is the clear acrylic skylight panel coating, in a 5-gallon pail, listed for fiberglass panels.

Every repair here wants reinforcement over it and a system on top of it. Three-course the details with polyester fabric or run butyl tape from Reinforcing fabrics & seam tapes, gun the joints and penetrations with Roofing sealants, then prime and base-coat from Base coats & primers for an acrylic finish; Silicone44 takes no base coat. Send the whole list, the site ZIP and your dates through the quote form and one person prices it all.
