KST058600 Uniflex Wet-Dry Roof Cement, Black

  • Roof cement
  • Sold by the container

The Uniflex roof cement for asphaltic roofs, listed for wet or dry substrates, which is the whole point of it. Single-component asphalt, non-asbestos, and stocked in four packs: the 10 oz cartridge, the 1-gallon can, the 3-gallon and the 5-gallon pail.

Key benefits

  • Listed for asphaltic roofing substrates wet or dry, so a leak does not have to wait for the roof to dry out
  • Single-component and non-asbestos, with nothing to mix on the roof
  • Four pack sizes, from the 10 oz cartridge for a single detail to the 5-gallon pail for a full flashing scope
  • Cartridges come 24 to a case and 1-gallon cans four to a case, which makes a truck stock order easy to count
  • Used with polyester fabric in the three-course method, so a repair is reinforced rather than just filled

Overview

Roofs leak in the rain, which is when nobody can coat them. KST058600 is the Uniflex answer to that: a black, single-component asphalt roof cement whose substrate line reads asphaltic-based roofing substrates, wet or dry. It is the cartridge that lives in the service truck and the pail that opens a restoration scope.

It is also a detail material rather than a field material. Used properly it is a three-course repair, cement with polyester fabric bedded into it and cement over the top, at splits, laps, stacks, curbs and wall flashings. We stock all four packs with KST020385 polyester fabric, and with the layers that go over an asphaltic roof afterwards: KST040312 fibered asphalt emulsion, or KST020412 asphalt primer under KST020475 fibered aluminum.

Application

  • The surface has to be sound and clean even where it is wet. Loose granules, debris and unbonded material come off first; wet is allowed, dirty is not.
  • Details first, field later. This is the material that closes splits, laps, penetrations and flashings before any coating goes on.
  • Prime by substrate only where the coating’s own data sheet calls for it; the cement itself is applied to the asphaltic surface the sheet lists.
  • Build the repair as the sheet describes, with polyester fabric bedded between two coats of cement rather than a single thick fill.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s product data sheet for rates, film build, cure times and the wait before a coating goes over the repair.

Ordering

KST058600 is stocked in the 10 oz cartridge, the 1-gallon can, and the 3 and 5-gallon pails, with cartridges 24 to a case and gallons four to a case. Stocked material ships in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. Cases by the pallet, the drums of coating that follow, and all the freight go through the quote form with your part numbers, quantities, site ZIP and dates. Every price here is quoted per project, and the quote states how the material is handled in transit.

Where it's used

  • Emergency and wet-weather repairs

Splits, open laps and holes on an asphaltic roof that has to be closed now. The data sheet lists the substrate as wet or dry, which is why this is the cartridge that lives in the truck.

  • Built-up and modified bitumen roofs

Smooth BUR, APP and SBS surfaces, where the cement is the asphalt-family patch for an asphalt-family roof.

  • Flashings and penetrations

Stacks, curbs, drains and wall flashings on asphaltic roofs, built up as a three-course detail with polyester fabric bedded between two coats.

  • Prep before a coating system

The repair that comes before a base coat. Splits and laps get closed with cement and fabric, and the field coating is then asked only to be a coating.

  • Truck and warehouse stock

Cartridges by the case for service work, gallons and pails for scheduled scopes, all from the same part number.

Questions

Can it really go down on a wet roof?
The manufacturer lists the substrate as asphaltic-based roofing, wet or dry. That is the manufacturer's statement and the reason the product exists. The product data sheet gives the conditions and the limits, and we supply the material and the sheet.
How is this different from the acrylic patching cement?
Chemistry and color. KST041220 is a white acrylic elastomeric patching cement that suits an acrylic coating system. KST058600 is a black asphalt cement for asphaltic substrates, and it is the one listed for wet surfaces.
Do I use fabric with it?
For anything more than a pinhole, yes. A coat of cement, polyester fabric bedded into it, then a second coat over the fabric. KST020385 is the 40-inch roll and narrower widths are stocked for tight details.
Can a coating go over it?
The manufacturer product data sheets for the coating decide that, including how long the cement has to cure first. On asphaltic roofs the usual next layers are an asphalt emulsion such as KST040312 or an aluminum coating such as KST020475 over the primer KST020412.
Which pack should I order?
Cartridges by the case for service trucks, 1-gallon cans for punch lists, 3 and 5-gallon pails for a flashing scope. Send the mix you want through the quote form; the quote states the case counts, the delivered price and the freight.
