What base coat goes under it?

It depends on the roof: the commercial-grade gray KST041520 on metal, concrete and foam, the single-ply base coat KST041321 on weathered EPDM after the Bond-It wash primer and on TPO and Hypalon after a pressure wash, and the elastomeric MB base coat on smooth BUR, modified bitumen and cap sheets.

How many gallons will my roof take?

The manufacturer's product data sheet states the coverage rate and the film build per coat and per substrate. Send the square footage, the roof type and its condition and the quote works the material out for that roof.

KST041500 is the commercial-grade white acrylic elastomeric finish coat. It sits beside the premium white on the same shelf, with the same manufacturer substrate list, the same three pack sizes and the same listing for use with reinforcing fabric or seam tape. Which of the two a job buys is a specification question, and the manufacturer’s data sheets are where that answer lives.

In practice this is the grade that goes out on square-footage work: warehouses, plants, distribution roofs and anything else where the take-off runs to drums and totes rather than pails. It is water-based, so it must not freeze in transit or in storage, and the ship window matters as much as the price when the weather is turning. Rates, film build, recoat and cure all come from the manufacturer’s product data sheet.

Application

Start on a clean, dry, sound roof. Wash the field, clear ponded silt and loose granules, and let it dry as the data sheet requires.
Repair before coating and reinforce the details first: splits, blisters, open laps, flashings, penetrations and fastener rows.
Prime by substrate. Metal, concrete, single ply and asphaltic surfaces each take a different first step off the data sheet.
Base coat, then finish coat, usually in contrasting colors so the crew can see the pass it is applying.
Apply at the rate, film build and coat count the manufacturer’s product data sheet states, in the conditions it allows.

Weathered EPDM, TPO and Hypalon over the single-ply base coat KST041321, with the Bond-It wash primer first on EPDM only, before an elastomeric finish coat.
Smooth BUR, modified bitumen and cap sheets

Sound asphaltic roofs, over the elastomeric MB base coat those surfaces need first so asphalt does not read through a white finish.
