Elastomeric & silicone finish coats

KST044320 Uniflex Silicone44 Rubberized Silicone Roof Coating, Gray

  • Silicone finish coat
  • Sold by the pail

Silicone44 KST044320 (product code 44-320) is the gray of the Uniflex silicone finish coat, the one made for areas where water stands. Uniflex puts no base coat under it: it goes over the prepared roof, with a primer only where the roof type calls for one. We hold it as a 5-gallon pail; drums are quoted.

Key benefits

  • Gray rubberized silicone finish coat, the second color of Silicone44 alongside the white KST044300
  • No base coat: Uniflex puts Silicone44 straight over the prepared roof, with a primer only where the roof type calls for one
  • Held as a 5-gallon pail (KST044320-20); the manufacturer also makes it in a 55-gallon drum (KST044320-27), so ask on the quote
  • A gray coat over a white one, or the reverse, lets a crew see the pass it is on
  • Priced per project through the quote form rather than printed as a list price

Overview

This is Silicone44 in gray: part number KST044320 (product code 44-320). It is the same rubberized silicone finish coat as the white, Silicone44 KST044300, and the same build-up goes under it. Data sheets and the safety data sheet call it 44-320, and the manufacturer names the color Gray; it is sometimes listed as light gray.

Gray gets picked for two reasons. Some owners do not want a white roof over a loading dock or a plant, and some crews want a second color so they can see the pass they are on when a system goes down in more than one coat. Either way the work underneath is the same, and it does not include a base coat: Uniflex’s silicone specifications put Silicone44 straight over the prepared roof, with a primer only where the roof type calls for one.

  • Metal: wash, tighten or replace fasteners, fasten laps open more than 1/8 in, prime every rusted area with KST034520 and let it cure, stripe the end laps, fastened seams and ridge-cap laps with Silicone44, then coat the field. Factory-finished (Kynar) panels: an adhesion test decides whether any primer is needed, so send us the roof.
  • EPDM: clean with the Bond-It wash primer KST038620, rinse and dry, seal open seams and flashings with the black MS hybrid KST058310, then coat. New EPDM takes a different primer, so ask us.
  • TPO and PVC: weathered membrane is coated directly after an adhesion test, with no primer and no base coat; seams and flashings are sealed with KST058310. New TPO or PVC needs a primer first, so ask us.
  • Smooth BUR, modified bitumen and granulated cap sheet: Uniflex’s Bleed Blocker Primer goes first where the asphalt is newer or likely to bleed through. We do not stock it; ask for it on the quote form.
  • Sprayed foam, concrete and existing coatings: coated directly. Wet or damaged foam is replaced first; concrete is cured at least 29 days at 15% moisture or less; an existing acrylic, silicone or urethane coating must be sound and aged.

Hypalon (CSPE) is not covered by any Uniflex silicone document: a Hypalon roof that drains takes the single-ply acrylic system, and for one that holds water, send us the roof. At curbs and penetrations Uniflex’s silicone specifications use its OneFlash sealant, which we do not stock; ask on the quote.

Application

  • Pressure wash the field and let the roof dry to the state the data sheet requires. Wet insulation, loose surfacing and failed material come out first.
  • Run the adhesion test on every silicone job: a small patch with a fabric strip embedded, left three days, then pulled. Uniflex looks for at least 2 lb per inch; a lower result goes to Uniflex, which decides the primer.
  • Close the details before the field goes on, with the materials the build-up above lists for that roof type.
  • Apply at the rate, film build and coat count the data sheet states, within the conditions it allows, with no base coat under it.
  • Keep the product data sheet and the safety data sheet on site. They are the authority on the work.

Ordering

Order by KST044320-20 for the 5-gallon pail, the pack we hold. The manufacturer also makes the gray in a 55-gallon drum, KST044320-27: ask on the quote. Stocked pails ship in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. Drums go by freight, and drums and pallet quantities go through the quote form; every price is quoted per project. Send the part numbers, the quantities, the site ZIP code and your dates, and we come back with the price, the freight and a ship date.

Where it's used

  • Metal panel roofs

Panel roofs where gray is the color the owner wants: washed, fasteners and open laps fastened, every rusted area primed with KST034520 and cured, end laps, seams and ridge-cap laps striped with Silicone44, then the field coat.

  • EPDM, TPO and PVC

EPDM cleaned with the Bond-It wash primer KST038620, rinsed and dried; weathered TPO and PVC coated directly after an adhesion test. Open seams and flashings sealed with the black MS hybrid KST058310. No base coat on any of them.

  • Smooth BUR, modified bitumen and cap sheet

Repaired and washed, with Uniflex's Bleed Blocker Primer first where the asphalt is newer or likely to bleed through (we do not stock it: ask on the quote). No MB base coat. Granulated cap sheets take more coating than smooth.

  • Sprayed foam, concrete and old coatings

Sound foam, clean concrete cured at least 29 days, and sound, aged acrylic, silicone or urethane roof coatings take Silicone44 directly after washing and an adhesion test, with no primer and no base coat.

  • Second color on a two-coat job

Jobs running the white and the gray as separate coats, so each pass is visible while it is being applied.

Questions

Does the gray come in a drum?
The pack we hold is the 5-gallon pail, KST044320-20. The manufacturer also makes the gray in a 55-gallon drum, KST044320-27, so ask for it on the quote and we price it with the freight.
Is this the same coating as the white?
Yes. It is Silicone44, the same rubberized silicone as the white KST044300, in gray. The build-up under it is the same. Supplier-stated figures such as elongation and tensile strength are published against the white, so read those from the manufacturer's data sheet for the color you are buying.
Does Silicone44 need a base coat?
No. Uniflex's silicone specifications put it straight over the prepared roof with no acrylic base coat. Some roofs need a primer: KST034520 on rusted metal, the Bond-It wash primer KST038620 on EPDM, and Uniflex's Bleed Blocker Primer on asphalt that may bleed through, which we do not stock. An adhesion test on every job settles the rest; a low result goes to Uniflex, which decides the primer.
Will it fix ponding water?
No coating fixes drainage. Silicone44 is the Uniflex coating made for areas where water stands, but Uniflex's silicone specifications still expect at least 1/4 in per ft of slope and working drains, and water that stands for long means more inspection, cleaning and recoating over the years.
Can I get a custom gray?
Not from our shelf. The tint bases in this range are acrylic elastomeric, not silicone, and tinting is handled with the manufacturer colorant system. Ask on the quote and we will tell you what is possible for your order.
Is silicone water-based?
No. Silicone44 is a silicone rubber coating. The acrylic elastomerics in the range are the water-based products. The product data sheet and the safety data sheet cover handling, storage and cleanup.
Who stands behind the system?
Sherwin-Williams issues its system warranties through its own authorized contractors on its own terms. We supply materials, and the goods are warranted to match their description. We work with a network of installers, roofing contractors who apply these systems, and can introduce you to one anywhere in the US.
