Reinforcing fabrics & seam tapes
KST020385 Uniflex Polyester Reinforcing Fabric, 40 in × 324 ft
- Reinforcing fabric
- 40 in × 324 ft
- Sold by the roll
The broad width of the Uniflex polyester fabric, 40 in across and 324 ft long, one roll per case. It is the roll used when a specification reinforces whole areas rather than single details, laid into a wet coat and coated over.
Key benefits
- Forty inches covers area rather than a line, which is what a fully reinforced specification asks for
- One 324 ft roll per case, so 1,000 sq ft of reinforcement takes roughly three rolls before laps and cuts
- White polyester listed for the three-course method with elastomeric and emulsion coatings from the same range
- The same fabric as the 6 in KST20385A and 12 in KST20385B, so a job can mix widths without mixing products
- Stocked with the base coats, emulsions and finish coats that carry it, and quoted on one order

Overview
When a specification reinforces the whole roof rather than the details, the roll gets wide. KST020385 is 40 in of white Uniflex polyester on a 324 ft roll (Sherwin-Williams also lists the same roll as KST20385C), about 1,080 sq ft of coverage before laps, and it is the width crews run across open deck behind a base coat.
The material is the same polyester as the 6 in and 12 in rolls, and it works the same way: laid into a wet coat, broomed flat until it wets through, then coated over so the fabric ends up in the middle of the film. It is also the sensible width for broad flat repairs on old bituminous roofs, where an emulsion or elastomeric coat has to bridge a large area of weathered surface.
Application
- Get the deck clean, dry and sound first. Loose coating, scale, ponded dirt and grease all come off before the base coat.
- Prime for the substrate underneath: metal primer on panels, concrete primer on cured concrete under an acrylic system, the wash primer on EPDM only.
- Do the details before the field. Seams, curbs, drains and penetrations get their reinforcement and coats, then the wide fabric goes across the open area.
- Run the roll into the wet coat and broom it out as you go, keeping the laps consistent and free of wrinkles and bridging.
- Follow the manufacturer’s product data sheet for coverage, film build, lap widths and recoat timing. The sheet sets the rates, not the roll.
Ordering
KST020385 is sold as one 40 in × 324 ft roll per case. Stocked rolls ship in 1 to 3 business days; if the width is not on the shelf it is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. Pallet quantities, and the drums or totes of coating that go with them, are freight shipments and go through the quote form with the part numbers, the roof area, the site ZIP and your dates. Every price is quoted per project.
Where it's used
-
Full-field reinforcement
Roofs where the specification calls for fabric across the whole deck rather than at details only, bedded into the base coat run by run.
-
Large flat details
Broad areas around drain sumps, tie-ins between roof sections and patched areas where a narrow strip would leave a joint in the reinforcement.
-
Modified bitumen and BUR repairs
Alligatored and patched bituminous roofs where the reinforcement has to cover an area of old surface before the emulsion or elastomeric coats go on.
-
Split and blister repairs
Cut-out and refilled splits or blisters that are wider than a tape run, three-coursed into the coat over the repair.
-
General roof repairs
The listed use covers general repair as well as seams, flashings and penetrations, worked in with elastomeric or emulsion coatings.

Questions
- Is this the width for a fully reinforced roof?
- Yes. Forty inches is the area width. Detail-only specifications are usually cheaper to run in the 6 in and 12 in rolls, and many jobs buy all three.
- How much area does one roll cover?
- A 40 in × 324 ft roll is about 1,080 sq ft laid flat, before laps, cuts and waste at upstands. The data sheet gives the lap width; send the roof area and the quote counts rolls.
- Can one person lay a 40 in roll?
- On open deck it is normally a two-person run, one feeding the roll and one brooming the fabric into the wet coat. Around details the narrower widths are easier to handle.
- Which coating goes with it?
- Any of the elastomeric or emulsion coatings in the range. Base coat first, fabric into it wet, then the coats above; the manufacturer's product data sheet states the rates for each step.
- What is the lead time?
- Stocked rolls ship in 1 to 3 business days. If the 40 in width is off the shelf when the order lands, it is brought in on a 1 to 2 week lead.
