Overview
KST04130D is the deep tint base of the premium acrylic elastomeric roof coating. It carries the same chemistry as the catalog colors, 100% acrylic elastomeric and water-based, and the same manufacturer substrate list: metal, polyurethane foam, concrete, smooth built-up, modified bitumen, granular cap sheets, EPDM and Hypalon, with fabric or seam tape at the details. The difference is that the pail holds a base, and the color is added to it afterwards with the manufacturer colorant system.
Deep is the base dark colors are built on. A roof that simply has to be black does not need it, because KST041325 is a catalog black straight from the pail. The deep base earns its place when the color has to match something already on the building, or when the specification calls for a shade rather than a name. The other two bases are KST04130A, accent, and KST04130P, pastel. Rates, film build, recoat and cure come from the manufacturer’s product data sheet.
Application
- Start on a roof that is clean, dry and sound. Wash the field, clear ponded silt and loose granules, and let it dry as the data sheet requires.
- Repair first, then reinforce the details before any field work: splits, blisters, open laps, flashings, penetrations and fastener rows.
- Prime by substrate. Metal, concrete, single ply and asphaltic roofs each take their own first step off the data sheet.
- Base coat, then finish coat, and order the tinted material for the whole roof at once so the color stays consistent from one pail to the next.
- Apply at the rate, film build and coat count the manufacturer’s product data sheet states, in the conditions it allows.

- Deep base or the catalog black?
- If the roof just needs to be black, KST041325 is the catalog black and comes ready in the pail. The deep base is for a dark color that has to be matched or shaded, and it has to be tinted with the manufacturer colorant system before it is a color at all.
- Do you tint it here?
- No. We do not tint. Tinting is done with the manufacturer colorant system, and the quote states how that is handled for your order before you commit.
- Which base does my color need?
- The colorant formula decides that, not the roof. Deep is the base for dark colors, accent for strong saturated ones and pastel for light ones. Send the color you are matching with the quote request and we come back with the base, the quantity and the lead time.
- How many pails will the roof take?
- The manufacturer's product data sheet states the coverage rate and the film build per coat and per substrate. Send the square footage, the roof type and its condition and the quote works the material out for that roof.
- Who issues the system warranty?
- Sherwin-Williams, through its own authorized contractors and on its own terms. We supply the materials, and the goods are warranted to match their description.
