KST041320 Uniflex Premium Acrylic Elastomeric Base Coat, Gray
- Premium acrylic base coat
- Sold by the pail
The premium-grade gray acrylic elastomeric in the Uniflex line, listed as a base coat or a finish coat on metal, concrete and polyurethane foam. It carries fabric and seam tape at the details and comes in 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums and 275-gallon totes.
Key benefits
- Listed for either role: the manufacturer states it as a base coat or a finish coat, so one product can cover both layers on the substrates it names
- Gray under a white finish coat, which makes the second pass easy to see and hard to miss
- Listed for use with polyester fabric or seam tape, so seams, fastener rows and flashings are reinforced inside the system
- Premium grade of the acrylic elastomeric family, alongside the commercial-grade KST041520 in the same color
- Three pack sizes: 5-gallon pail, 55-gallon drum and 275-gallon tote, so a detail scope and a whole roof buy the same coat

Overview
KST041320 is the gray premium acrylic elastomeric in the Uniflex line, and the interesting thing about it is that the manufacturer lists it in two roles. As a base coat it is written for metal, concrete and polyurethane foam; as a finish coat it can be the top layer on those same substrates where gray is the color you want.
In practice most crews use it as the middle layer of a three-part system, which is where gray pays off: a white finish coat over a gray base coat shows every miss. It is also the coat that carries the reinforcement. We stock it in pails, drums and totes with KST036520 and KST036500 as the metal and concrete primers, KST020385 polyester fabric for the details, and KST041300, the premium acrylic white, as the finish coat.
Application
- The roof has to be clean, dry and sound first. Rust, chalk, oil, loose granules and standing water are prep, and no elastomeric fixes any of them.
- Prime by substrate: a rust-inhibitive primer on metal, the acrylic concrete primer on concrete, and whatever the data sheet directs on foam.
- Reinforce the details before the field goes on. Seams, fastener rows, penetrations and flashings take fabric or tape bedded into this coat.
- Apply at the rates, film build and coat count in the manufacturer’s product data sheet, inside its temperature window, and let each coat cure as the sheet requires.
- Where this coat is the finish coat, take that decision and its film build from the data sheet for the substrate in front of you.
Ordering
KST041320 is stocked in 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums and 275-gallon totes. Stocked material ships in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. Drums, totes, pallets and the freight that carries them go through the quote form with your part numbers, quantities, site ZIP and dates. Every price here is quoted per project, and a person prices the primer, the base coat, the reinforcement and the finish coat on one quote.
Where it's used
-
Metal panel roofs
Screw-down and standing-seam steel over a rust-inhibitive primer, with tape or fabric bedded into this coat at the laps and fastener rows before the finish coat.
-
Concrete decks
Cured concrete roof decks primed with the acrylic concrete primer, where the gray base coat builds the film that the white finish coat then closes.
-
Sprayed polyurethane foam
SPF roofs, which the substrate line names alongside metal and concrete. The foam sets the prep and the data sheet sets the film build.
-
A gray finish on its own
Jobs where gray is the wanted color and the data sheet allows this coat in the finish role, on the substrates it lists as a base coat.
-
Detail and flashing work
Bedding polyester fabric at penetrations, curbs and wall flashings, so the reinforcement sits inside the coating rather than under it.

Questions
- Base coat or finish coat?
- The manufacturer lists it for either role on metal, concrete and polyurethane foam. Most jobs use it as the gray base coat under a white finish coat such as KST041300; where gray is the wanted color it can be the top layer on those substrates. Check the data sheet for the roof you have.
- What is the difference from KST041520?
- Grade. KST041320 is the premium acrylic elastomeric and KST041520 is the commercial grade, both gray and both listed as base coat or finish coat on metal, concrete and polyurethane foam. The data sheets are where the difference is spelled out.
- Which primer goes under it?
- The substrate decides. Metal takes KST034520 in red or KST036520 in white, concrete takes KST036500, and polyurethane foam is prepared as the data sheet directs. The sheets also say where no primer is called for.
- How is the reinforcement done?
- Polyester fabric or seam tape bedded into this coat at seams, fastener rows, penetrations and flashings, then coated over. KST020385 is the 40-inch fabric roll; narrower widths are stocked for tighter details.
- Can it go under a silicone coating?
- No. Uniflex never puts an acrylic base coat under Silicone44; its silicone specifications go from the prepared roof straight to the silicone, with a primer only where the roof type calls for one. This base coat belongs to the acrylic system, under an acrylic finish coat.
- Pail, drum or tote?
- All three are stocked. Pails suit details and small areas, drums suit a normal roof, and the 275-gallon tote suits spray application on a large one. Send the area through the quote form and the quote states the pack mix and the freight.
