Reinforcing fabrics & seam tapes
KST020802 Uniflex Butyl Seam Tape, 2 in × 50 ft
- Seam tape
- 2 in × 50 ft
- Sold by the case
The narrowest butyl seam tape in the Uniflex range, 2 in wide on a 50 ft roll and packed twelve rolls to the case. Self-adhering butyl goes down dry, so a fastener row or a tight seam is closed in one pass without waiting on a wet coat.
Key benefits
- Two inches is the fastener-row and tight-seam width, where a wider tape would only be trimmed back
- Self-adhering butyl rubber, so the detail is closed dry rather than bedded into a wet coat
- Twelve 50 ft rolls to the case, which is 600 linear feet of detail work per box
- Listed by the maker for seams, flashings, penetrations and other roof details
- Held in stock beside the primers and base coats that go over it

Overview
Most of what fails on a metal roof is a line, not an area. A screw row, a lock seam, a termination bar: long, narrow, and tedious to detail with anything wet. Self-adhering butyl tape closes those lines dry, and KST020802 is the narrow one, 2 in wide on a 50 ft roll with twelve rolls to the case.
Two inches is deliberate. It reaches across a fastener row or a low-profile lap and no further, so a crew is not paying for material that gets trimmed off. Where the seam stands taller or a joint has opened, the same butyl comes as KST020804 at 4 in, KST020806 at 6 in and KST020808 at 8 in.
Application
- The surface has to be clean, dry and sound. Butyl sticks to sound metal and coating, not to dust, oil or rust scale.
- Prime by substrate where the system calls for it, with a metal primer on panels and gutters or, on EPDM only, the wash primer.
- Details come first in the order of work. Tape the fastener rows and seams, then fabric the wider flashings, then coat the field.
- Roll the tape down under pressure along its whole length and lap the ends. A hand roller matters more with butyl than with fabric.
- Follow the manufacturer’s product data sheet for surface preparation, temperature limits and what may be applied over the tape and when.
Ordering
KST020802 is sold by the case of twelve 2 in × 50 ft rolls. Stocked cases ship in 1 to 3 business days, and anything off the shelf is ordered in on a 1 to 2 week lead. Pallet quantities, and the pails, drums or totes traveling with them, go on a freight quote through the quote form with the part numbers, quantities, site ZIP and your dates. Every price is quoted per project.
Where it's used
-
Fastener rows on metal panels
Screw lines down a panel roof, taped in a straight run before the base coat instead of dressing every head by hand.
-
Tight panel seams
Low-profile side laps and lock seams on metal roofs, where 2 in reaches both sides of the joint and nothing more.
-
Small penetrations
Conduit, cable and small vent pipes, where a narrow tape can be wound around the stack and dressed into the flat.
-
Flashing edges and terminations
Termination bars, reglet edges and counterflashing lines that need a closed edge before the coats go on.
-
Detail prep before coating
Any roof detail that has to be sealed dry so the coating crew is not waiting for a three-course pass to set up.

Questions
- Does the tape get coated over?
- On a coating job, yes. Butyl seam tape is listed for seams, flashings, penetrations and details beneath the system, so the base coat and finish coats run over it. The fleece-backed MS hybrid bonding tape is the one listed as not needing a coat over it.
- Tape or fabric at a seam?
- Tape goes down dry and is fast on a straight run. Fabric is bedded into a wet coat and builds film with it. Plenty of roofs use tape on fastener rows and fabric at flashings.
- Why the 2 in width?
- For screw lines and tight laps. Where the seam profile is taller or the joint has opened up, the 4, 6 and 8 in rolls are the same tape in a wider format.
- How much does a case cover?
- Twelve rolls at 50 ft is 600 linear feet before overlaps at roll ends. Count the fastener rows and seams, add the overlaps, and the quote works out the cases.
- Can it go on a Hypalon roof?
- Yes. The butyl seam tape is listed for EPDM and CSPE Hypalon roofs, coated over with the elastomeric the same day. It is the only detail product in our catalogue the manufacturer lists for Hypalon: none of our cartridge sealants names it, so on Hypalon the sealant is confirmed with the manufacturer's technical service and an adhesion test before the order. Tell us the membrane type.
- How is it ordered?
- By the case, through the quote form with the part number, the quantity, the site ZIP and your dates. Stocked tape ships in 1 to 3 business days.
