KST036520 Uniflex Acrylic Rust-Inhibitive Metal Primer, White
- Acrylic metal primer
- Sold by the pail
The white acrylic rust-inhibitive primer in the Uniflex line, listed for metal including iron and steel and for pre-finished fluorocarbon (Kynar) metal roofing. Water based, stocked in 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums, and quoted per project.
Key benefits
- The primer whose substrate line reaches pre-finished panels: metal including iron and steel, plus fluorocarbon (Kynar) metal roofing
- Acrylic and water based, which puts it in the same chemistry family as the acrylic elastomeric coats that go over it
- White, so it sits under a white or light finish coat without fighting it for hiding
- Two pack sizes, the 5-gallon pail and the 55-gallon drum, for spot priming and for a whole panel roof
- Stocked beside the base coats, finish coats, tapes and sealants a metal-roof scope needs, so one quote covers the system

Overview
KST036520 is the white half of the Uniflex metal primer pair, and its substrate line is the reason to reach for it: metal surfaces including iron and steel, and pre-finished fluorocarbon (Kynar) metal roofing. Factory-finished panels are slick and fussy about what sticks to them, and this is the primer written for that case under the acrylic system. It is not the silicone system’s primer: on a Kynar roof going under Silicone44, an adhesion test decides whether any primer is needed, so send us the roof.
Being acrylic and white, it also sits comfortably under the rest of a light-colored system. We stock it in 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums with KST041320, the gray premium acrylic elastomeric base coat listed for metal, KST041300, the premium acrylic white finish coat, KST020804 butyl seam tape for the laps and fastener rows, and KST058300 MS hybrid sealant for moving joints on coated metal.
Application
- Start on clean, dry, sound panels. Chalk, oil, loose rust and dirt come off first, and on a pre-finished panel that wash-down is the whole job.
- Detail before the field: seams, fastener rows, penetrations and flashings get tape or fabric, and moving joints get a sealant.
- Prime by substrate. Pre-finished fluorocarbon panels and bare or corroding steel are both on this primer’s list; the data sheet decides where a primer is needed at all.
- Apply at the rates, film build and coat count in the manufacturer’s product data sheet, inside its stated temperature window.
- Keep the recoat window between primer and base coat, and take cure times from the sheet rather than the forecast.
Ordering
KST036520 is stocked in the 5-gallon pail and the 55-gallon drum. Stocked material ships in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. Drums, totes, pallets and freight go through the quote form with your part numbers, quantities, site ZIP and dates. A person prices the primer, the tape, the base coat and the finish coat on one quote, and every price here is quoted per project.
Where it's used
-
Pre-finished (Kynar) panel roofs
Factory-finished fluorocarbon panels, which are on this primer's substrate line and are where a wash of the wrong primer usually goes wrong.
-
Screw-down and standing-seam steel
Exposed-fastener and standing-seam steel roofs being restored, primed across the panels, laps and fastener rows before the base coat carries tape over them.
-
Galvanized and aluminum details
Metal curbs, edge details, gutters and equipment supports on the roof surface, covered by the same metal substrate line as the panels.
-
Light-colored systems
The primer of choice where the finish coat is white or a light tint and a red primer underneath would be working against the topcoat.
-
Spot priming
Bought in the 5-gallon pail for the corroded areas of an otherwise sound panel roof, where only part of the field needs a rust-inhibitive primer.

Questions
- Which primer goes on a Kynar roof?
- Under the acrylic system, this one: pre-finished fluorocarbon (Kynar) metal roofing is on KST036520's substrate line along with iron and steel. Under Silicone44, no Uniflex document pairs this primer with the silicone; an adhesion test decides whether any primer is needed, so send us the roof. The red alkyd primer KST034520 is aimed at rusted metal.
- Is it water based?
- Yes. The manufacturer states acrylic technology for this primer, which is the water-based side of the line. The red primer KST034520 is an alkyd.
- What goes over it?
- An elastomeric base coat and then a finish coat. KST041320 is the gray premium acrylic elastomeric listed for metal, and KST041300 is the premium acrylic white finish coat. Film build, coat count and recoat windows come from their data sheets.
- What handles the seams and fasteners?
- Butyl seam tape or polyester fabric bedded into the base coat, plus a sealant where a joint moves. KST020804 is the 4-inch butyl tape, and KST058300 is the MS hybrid sealant whose substrate line includes coated metal (Kynar).
- Pail or drum?
- Both are stocked. Put the panel area and the extent of the corrosion on the quote request and the quote states the pack count, the delivered price and the ship window.
