Overview
Black is the working color on a bituminous roof, and asphalt is on this sealant’s substrate list, which is a combination not many cartridges offer. KST058410 is the black grade of the Uniflex solvent-based tripolymer, a 10.3 oz tube packed 24 to the case.
Its list is the widest in the cartridge range: coated metal (Kynar), brick, concrete, glass, vinyl, steel, tile, wood and asphalt. The maker states application from 0 F to 140 F, service from -40 F to 180 F, tack free in 2 hours, and cure over 4 to 6 days, which is worth knowing before anything is scheduled to go over the bead. White is KST058400, clear is KST058450, and the same black material comes as the 29 oz KST058411.
Application
- Open the joint up and get it clean, dry and sound. Failed sealant out, dust off porous surfaces, oil off metal.
- Prime by substrate where the specification calls for it, with the metal primer on steel and the concrete primer on cured concrete.
- Details before field. Gun the joints, tape or reinforce what needs it, and coat the open roof afterwards.
- Gun a full bead and tool it into the joint so it wets both faces, working it into porous brick and asphalt rather than laying it on top.
- Follow the manufacturer’s product data sheet for joint design, bead size, cure and anything applied over the sealant.
Ordering
KST058410 is sold by the 10.3 oz cartridge and the case of 24. Stocked cases ship in 1 to 3 business days, and an off-shelf color is ordered in and takes 1 to 2 weeks. The product is solvent-based, so it ships as regulated freight, quoted with the order. Send the part numbers, quantities, site ZIP and your dates through the quote form. Every price is quoted per project.

-
Asphalt and bituminous details
Terminations, collars and joint work on asphalt surfaces and bituminous roofs, where asphalt appears on the maker's substrate list.

Panel laps, fastener heads and trim on bronze, brown and black coated metal (Kynar) and steel.
-
Tile roof details
Ridge, hip and penetration joints on tile roofs, where the sealant grips a hard surface and stays flexible.
-
Cold-weather repairs
Joint work down to the listed 0 F application limit, on roofs that will be coated later in the season.

Questions
- Why pick the tripolymer over the black polyurethane?
- For the substrate. Asphalt, brick, concrete, glass, vinyl and tile are on the tripolymer list; the polyurethane list runs to metal, masonry, wood and shingles. Match the cartridge to the joint.
- Can it be coated over?
- The manufacturer's product data sheets for the sealant and for the coating settle that, including how long the bead needs first. Cure is listed at 4 to 6 days, so allow for it in the program.
- Is it suitable for single-ply membranes?
- No. EPDM, TPO and PVC are not on this list. The MS hybrid sealants are the ones listed for EPDM, TPO and PVC: the black KST058310 over aged TPO and PVC as they are, the white over TPO and PVC primed with KST058700.
- Which size should I order?
- 10.3 oz, 24 per case, for scattered detail work. KST058411 is the 29 oz cartridge, six per case, for continuous runs, and it needs a barrel gun.
- What about freight?
- It is a solvent-based product and ships as regulated freight, quoted with the order. Stocked cases leave in 1 to 3 business days.
