KST020418 Uniflex Superbrite Non-Fibered Aluminum Roof Coating, Silver
- Non-fibered aluminum coating
- Sold by the pail
Superbrite is the non-fibered aluminum coating in the range, a silver coating made with asphalt and gilsonite, listed for metal, smooth built-up, granulated asphalt and granulated or smooth modified bitumen. Its data sheet names no primer for any substrate: a pressure wash and a fully dry roof. A 5-gallon pail item.
Key benefits
- The non-fibered silver of the three aluminum coatings, so it lays down without the body a fibered coating carries
- Made with asphalt and gilsonite, and listed over metal, smooth BUR, granulated asphalt and granulated or smooth modified bitumen
- No primer named for any substrate: a pressure wash and a fully dry roof, at 50 °F or warmer with no rain forecast
- Held as a 5-gallon pail; pallet quantities, delivery and freight are quoted with the order
- An asphalt-based aluminum coating, so it ships as regulated freight, quoted with the order

Overview
KST020418 is Superbrite, the non-fibered aluminum coating in the Uniflex range. The manufacturer gives its technology as asphalt and gilsonite with non-fibered aluminum, and lists it over metal, smooth built-up, granulated asphalt and granulated or smooth modified bitumen. Its data sheet names no primer for any substrate; preparation is a pressure wash and a fully dry roof, at 50 °F or warmer with no rain forecast. Unlike the fibered 500 and 300, it is not listed to go directly over lightly rusted metal. It is the silver you reach for when the roof needs a coating rather than a body coat.
That is the whole distinction inside this part of the range. The fibered products, the premium 500 and the commercial 300, carry fiber and go on heavier. Superbrite does not, and it comes as a 5-gallon pail, which suits outbuildings, canopies, mechanical enclosures and sections of a larger roof. What the film build and the coverage should be is set out in the manufacturer’s product data sheet, and the quote works the quantity from the roof area rather than from a nominal figure.
Application
- Start on a roof that is clean, dry and sound. Wash the field, clear ponded silt and loose surfacing, and deal with failed material first.
- Close and reinforce the details before the field: splits, open laps, flashings, penetrations and fastener rows, with fabric or roof cement as the detail calls for.
- No primer is named for any substrate. Where smooth BUR or modified bitumen has dried out, the black asphalt primer KST020412 can rejuvenate it first; granulated surfaces do not take it. On rusted metal, ask us before you order.
- Apply at the rate, film build and coat count the manufacturer’s product data sheet states, in the conditions it allows.
- Keep the product data sheet and the safety data sheet on site. An asphalt-based aluminum coating carries its own handling rules.
Ordering
KST020418 is held as a 5-gallon pail. Stocked pails ship in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. As an aluminum coating it moves as regulated freight, quoted with the order, and pallet quantities, drum requests and freight all go through the quote form. Every price is quoted per project rather than printed here. Send the part numbers, the quantities, the site ZIP code and your dates, and the price comes back with freight and a ship date.
Where it's used
-
Metal panel roofs
Panel and standing-seam roofs being resurfaced in silver. Its data sheet does not list it directly over rust: on a rusted roof the fibered 500 and 300 are the aluminum coatings listed over light rust, or ask us.
-
Smooth built-up roofs
Sound smooth BUR that has lost its surfacing, pressure washed and fully dry. Where the asphalt has dried out, the black asphalt primer KST020412 can rejuvenate it first; it is not a required step.
-
Modified bitumen and granulated cap sheet
Granulated asphalt cap sheets and granulated or smooth modified bitumen, which the current data sheet lists, pressure washed and left fully dry before the coating goes on.
-
Small roofs and single-pail work
Outbuildings, canopies, mechanical enclosures and sections of roof where a pail is the right quantity and a drum is not.
-
Roofs already coated in aluminum
Asphaltic and metal roofs on a silver maintenance cycle, where the surface is sound and the data sheet lists it for recoating.

Questions
- Fibered or non-fibered, which do I want?
- KST020418 is the non-fibered coating. KST020475 and KST020480 carry fiber. The manufacturer's product data sheet states the film build and the coverage each one asks for, and the quote sizes the order from the roof area you send us.
- Why does the spec table say asphalt and gilsonite?
- That is how the manufacturer describes this product's technology, alongside the non-fibered aluminum. What it means for the film, the coverage and the cure is set out in the manufacturer's product data sheet, and that sheet is the only place we would point you for it.
- Does it need a primer?
- The data sheet names no primer for any substrate. Preparation is a pressure wash and a fully dry roof, at 50 °F or warmer with no rain forecast. The black asphalt primer KST020412 rejuvenates dried-out smooth BUR and modified bitumen; it is not a required first step and not for granulated surfaces. Unlike the fibered 500 and 300, Superbrite is not listed directly over lightly rusted metal, so on a rusted roof, ask us.
- Will it go over a granulated cap sheet?
- Yes. The current data sheet lists granulated asphalt and granulated or smooth modified bitumen alongside metal and smooth built-up, with no primer named: wash it, let it dry fully, and coat.
- Does it come in a drum?
- The pack size we hold is the 5-gallon pail. If a job needs drum quantities of the non-fibered silver, say so on the quote and we price what the manufacturer can supply along with the freight.
- Why is the freight quoted separately?
- Aluminum coatings are asphalt-based and regulated for transport, so they move as regulated freight. We quote it with the order rather than guess, and the quote states what it covers.
