KST020480 Uniflex 300 Commercial Fibered Aluminum Roof Coating, Silver
- Commercial aluminum coating
- Sold by the pail
The commercial-grade fibered aluminum coating, the 300, in silver. Asphalt-based and carrying fiber, listed for metal, smooth built-up, granulated asphalt and granulated or smooth modified bitumen, and listed to go directly over lightly rusted metal without a primer. Pails and drums, shipped as regulated freight.
Key benefits
- Commercial grade of the two fibered aluminum coatings, for square-footage resurfacing work in silver
- Listed to go directly over lightly rusted metal roofs without a primer
- Carries fiber, so it is the body coat rather than the thin non-fibered silver
- Stocked in 5-gallon pails, with 55-gallon drums quoted with the order
- An asphalt-based aluminum coating, so it ships as regulated freight, quoted with the order

Overview
KST020480 is the commercial-grade fibered aluminum coating, the 300, in silver. Asphalt-based, carrying fiber, listed by the manufacturer over metal, smooth built-up, granulated asphalt and granulated or smooth modified bitumen with no primer named for any of them, and listed to go straight over lightly rusted metal roofs with no primer under it. It is the grade that gets bought by the drum when someone is resurfacing a lot of roof at a square-footage price.
The choice between this and the premium 500 is a specification question rather than a stocking one: both are here, both in pails and drums, both the same silver. What is worth deciding first is whether the roof needs an emulsion under the aluminum at all. The manufacturer lists an asphalt emulsion for extremely dried-out and heavily alligatored asphaltic roofs, ahead of an elastomeric or aluminum coating, and on a roof that is merely weathered it may not be needed. Rates, film build and cure come from the manufacturer’s product data sheet.
Application
- Start on a roof that is clean, dry and sound. Wash the field, clear ponded silt and loose surfacing, and deal with failed material first.
- Close and reinforce the details before the field: splits, open laps, flashings, penetrations and fastener rows, with fabric or roof cement as the detail calls for.
- Prepare by pressure washing and let the roof dry fully; coat at 50 °F or warmer with no rain forecast. Light rust on metal needs no primer for this coating. Where smooth BUR or modified bitumen has dried out, the black asphalt primer KST020412 can rejuvenate it first; granulated surfaces do not take it.
- Apply at the rate, film build and coat count the manufacturer’s product data sheet states, in the conditions it allows.
- Keep the product data sheet and the safety data sheet on site. An asphalt-based aluminum coating carries its own handling rules.
Ordering
KST020480 comes in 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums. Stocked pack sizes ship in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. As an aluminum coating it moves as regulated freight, quoted with the order, and drums, pallet quantities and freight all go through the quote form. Every price is quoted per project. Send the part numbers, the quantities, the site ZIP code and your dates, and we reply with the price, freight to the site and a ship date.
Where it's used
-
Warehouse and plant roofs
Large metal and asphaltic roofs resurfaced in silver on a square-footage price, where the take-off runs to drums rather than pails.
-
Metal panel roofs
Panel and standing-seam roofs, including panels with light surface rust, which this coating is listed to go over without a primer.
-
Smooth built-up roofs
Sound smooth BUR that has lost its surfacing, pressure washed and fully dry. Where the asphalt has dried out, the black asphalt primer KST020412 can rejuvenate it first; it is not a required step.
-
Modified bitumen and granulated cap sheet
Granulated asphalt cap sheets and granulated or smooth modified bitumen being resurfaced rather than torn off, which the current data sheet lists, pressure washed and fully dry.
-
Roofs that took an emulsion first
Dried-out or alligatored asphaltic roofs that have had a non-fibered or fibered asphalt emulsion, which the manufacturer lists ahead of an aluminum coating.

Questions
- How is the 300 different from the 500?
- KST020480 is the commercial grade and KST020475 is the premium grade. Both are fibered aluminum in silver, both come in 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums, and both carry the same substrate list. The manufacturer's data sheets set out the difference, and the quote prices whichever the specification names.
- Does it need a primer on metal?
- Not over light surface rust. The manufacturer lists the fibered 300 and 500 to go directly over lightly rusted metal roofs without a primer; the non-fibered Superbrite is not listed that way. Heavier corrosion is beyond what the data sheet describes, so send us the roof before you order.
- What about a dried-out asphalt roof?
- The coating's data sheet names no primer for any substrate: a pressure wash and a fully dry roof, at 50 °F or warmer with no rain forecast. The black asphalt primer KST020412 can rejuvenate dried-out smooth BUR and modified bitumen first, though it is not a required step and not for granulated surfaces, and the manufacturer lists an asphalt emulsion for extremely dried-out or heavily alligatored asphaltic roofs. Both emulsions are in this collection.
- How does it ship?
- Aluminum coatings are asphalt-based and regulated for transport, so this product moves as regulated freight, quoted with the order. Tell us about site access and lift-gate needs when you ask for a quote.
- How many gallons will my roof take?
- The manufacturer's product data sheet states the coverage rate and the film build. Send the square footage, the roof type and its condition and the quote works the pails or drums out for that roof.
