Overview
Asphaltic roofs are the bulk of the flat-roof stock in the United States, and KST041510 is the Uniflex base coat written for them. The substrate line covers smooth BUR, modified bitumen, granular cap sheets and the other surfaces its data sheet lists, which is most of what a restoration contractor walks onto.
It is a base coat and nothing else: the manufacturer states it must be topcoated with an elastomeric finish coat. We stock it in pails, drums and 275-gallon totes with KST041220 acrylic patching cement and KST020385 polyester fabric for the details, and KST041300 or KST041500 as the finish coat. The same base coat in gray is KST041512.
Application
- The roof has to be clean, dry and sound before anything is coated. Loose granules, debris, ponding water and open laps are prep, not coating.
- Details come first: splits, open laps, blisters, penetrations and flashings get patching cement with fabric or tape bedded into it.
- Prime by substrate where the manufacturer’s product data sheet calls for a primer on the sheet and condition you have.
- Apply at the rates, film build and coat count the manufacturer’s product data sheet states, inside its temperature window.
- Topcoat it within the recoat window in the data sheet. A base coat left uncoated is not the system the sheets describe.
Ordering
KST041510 is stocked in 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums and 275-gallon totes. Stocked material ships in 1 to 3 business days; anything not on the shelf is ordered in and runs 1 to 2 weeks. Drums, totes, pallets and the freight that carries them go through the quote form with your part numbers, quantities, site ZIP and dates. Every price here is quoted per project, and one quote can carry the patch work, the base coat and the finish coat together.
Where it's used
-
Smooth built-up roofs
Aged smooth BUR being restored rather than torn off, base coated in white ahead of an elastomeric finish coat.
-
Modified bitumen
APP and SBS modified bitumen roofs, which the substrate line names directly. The condition of the sheet decides the prep; the data sheet decides the film build.
-
Granular cap sheets
Granulated cap sheets, the hardest of the three to coat well, which is why they are called out on the substrate line rather than left implied.
-
Laps, splits and flashings
The coat that beds polyester fabric or seam tape over open laps, splits, penetrations and wall flashings, so the reinforcement sits inside the coating.
-
Spray application on large roofs
Warehouse and plant roofs where the 275-gallon tote is the sensible pack and the crew is spraying rather than rolling.

Questions
- Can the base coat be the only coat?
- No. The manufacturer states that it must be topcoated with an elastomeric finish coat. KST041300 is the premium acrylic white and KST041500 the commercial grade, and both list smooth BUR, modified bitumen and granular cap sheets among their substrates.
- White or gray?
- KST041510 is the white version and KST041512 the gray, and they are the same base coat. Gray under a white finish coat makes the topcoat pass easier to see; white on white is a matter of preference and of what the specification says.
- Does a cap sheet need a primer first?
- The manufacturer product data sheet decides that from the sheet and its condition. Send the roof type, its age and photographs with the quote request, and the quote lists only the prep the sheets actually call for.
- What do the splits and blisters get?
- They are closed and reinforced before the field is coated. KST041220 is the white acrylic patching cement and KST020385 the 40-inch polyester fabric; the three-course method puts the fabric inside the patch.
- Can it go under a silicone coating?
- No. Uniflex puts no MB base coat under Silicone44. On asphaltic roofs the silicone goes on after a wash and seam work, with Uniflex's Bleed Blocker Primer first where the asphalt is newer or likely to bleed through; we do not stock that primer, so ask on the quote. This base coat belongs to the acrylic system.
- Pail, drum or tote?
- All three are stocked. Pails for details, drums for a normal roof, the 275-gallon tote for spray work on a big one. Send the area through the quote form and the quote states the pack mix, the delivered price and the freight.
