Overview

Gray is the color roofs actually are more often than anyone expects: galvanized panels, concrete decks, gray base coats, weathered coping stones. KST058120 is the gray cartridge of the Uniflex general-purpose polyurethane, sized at 10.1 oz and packed 24 to the case, and it keeps detail work from reading as a row of patches.

The material matches KST058100 and KST058110 exactly: single-component polyurethane, listed for steel, aluminum, coated metal (Kynar), masonry, wood and asphalt shingles, tack free in 3 hours, cured in a day, application and service both listed from -20 F to 150 F. On galvanized work it pairs naturally with the acrylic rust-inhibitive metal primer and the gray base coats in the range.

Application

  • Make sure the joint is clean, dry and sound. Old sealant comes out, scale comes off, and oily galvanized panels get degreased.
  • Prime by substrate where the specification calls for it, with a metal primer on panels or a concrete primer on cured concrete.
  • Seal and reinforce the details before the field is coated, so nothing has to be reopened once the base coat is down.
  • Gun a full bead into the joint and tool it, making sure the sealant wets both faces rather than spanning the gap.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s product data sheet for joint preparation, bead size, cure times and what may be applied over the sealant.

Ordering

KST058120 comes in 10.1 oz cartridges, 24 to a case, one color per case. Stocked cases ship in 1 to 3 business days, and off-shelf colors are ordered in on a 1 to 2 week lead. Pallet quantities and the pails, drums or totes traveling with them go through the quote form as a freight shipment; send part numbers, quantities, the site ZIP and your dates. Every price is quoted per project.

Where it's used

  • Galvanized metal roofs

Fastener rows, panel laps and trim joints on galvanized and mill-finish metal, where a gray bead is close to the surface color.

  • Concrete decks and curbs

Joints in cured concrete decks, curbs and pads, sealed before a primer and base coat go over them.

  • Masonry parapets

Coping joints, reglets and wall terminations in block and brick parapets, where a moving joint needs a flexible seal.

  • Gray coated systems

Roofs finished in the gray base coats and coatings in the range, where the detail work should match the field color.

  • Equipment stands and penetrations

Pipe sleeves, conduit clips and equipment feet, gunned as a finished detail or sealed ahead of the coating system.

Questions

Why buy the gray rather than the white?
Because the surface is gray. Galvanized panels, concrete and the gray base coats in the range all take a gray bead better than a white one where the sealant stays exposed.
Is it the same sealant as the white and black cartridges?
Yes. KST058100, KST058110 and KST058120 share the chemistry, the substrate list, the temperature range and the cure times. Color is the only difference.
Does concrete need priming first?
Masonry is on the sealant's substrate list, but a coating system over it will usually call for the acrylic concrete primer. The manufacturer's product data sheets set out the preparation for both.
Is there a faster-skinning gray?
The fast-skin polyurethane comes in white and black only. If gray is essential and the joint has to skin quickly, check the manufacturer's product data sheet for the options before ordering.
Can I order a mixed case?
Cases are single color and hold 24 cartridges. Put the colors and quantities you need on one quote request and they ship together.
